ANSWERS. This is something that we all want, we search for, we ask God for and we think they are the best thing. Really, they are the best thing, answers show you the next steps that you should take, usually, they give you peace. Here is the problem with finding answers, sometimes they just bring even more questions.
If you have been following us from the beginning you know that we were waiting on a Lyme’s test and we felt very discouraged when we found out that we had to wait even longer when we had to redo the test. I remember telling a co-worker of mine that if this test comes back negative it will feel like a lot of wasted time and money. As we prepared to hear the results for the test, I went into a couple of days of fasting to prepare my heart for whatever the answer was going to be. I can honestly say that by the time we got the email to say the results were in I was in a place that I would have been okay with a negative or a positive result. We had/have another idea of what could be wrong so I knew we were not at the end of our rope if the test was negative.
When we got back out to the car after that appointment, I cannot express how much joy and relief we were feeling. That should not be a normal feeling that you feel when you get a diagnosis like Lyme’s but the relief from having an answer to a question that has plagued Kevin’s life for so many years was all we were feeling. As we drove home the gravity of the situation slowly started sinking in and I started to feel stressed. That night I slept well but the night after that I hardly slept at all thinking of the future and all the millions of questions and decisions that needed to be made now.
So yes, we have an answer, Kevin has gotten a positive Lyme’s diagnosis. We assume that he got bit when he was about 13 years old when his allergies started to make themselves known and he started noticing differences in his memory at school. This is of course an assumption; we have heard of cases that they figure the Lyme’s disease lay dormant for years so he may have been bitten soon after arriving in NS (he did have some trouble with his health when he was young) and it only became a more chronic problem when he reached puberty. We will never know how long it has been in his body but what we do know is that this is going to be a LONG road and we are not sure what that all means for us. To begin with we are starting on lots of herbal supplements and we need to work on getting our hands on some antibiotics. Once those are started, we will then talk about the next steps.
There are going to be a lot of challenges and decisions that will need to be made in the next couple of weeks so please pray for us as we go into that. We want to feel God’s leading and peace as He works through us in this.
