Joseph was a man that suffered a lot of disappointments in his life. He tried to be friendly with his brothers and they rejected him. He felt pleased when his father gave him a new coat and then his brothers sold him. He worked hard to find his place in a new culture and he was thrown in prison. He blessed his fellow jail mates and the butler forgot him. He continually did what was right and he continually got disappointed.
Sometimes life can feel like this. We can do everything right, we can follow the rules, ask for prayer and trust God and still things do not work out the way that we hoped. This week has had some moments like this. We got the news that the Lyme’s test had not come back to the doctor on Wednesday and on Thursday we found out that the blood had never made it to the testing lab and we will need to start all over again.
This was a really big disappointment for us as we had been holding off making any more decisions until we found out those results. The feelings of having almost four weeks of our time wasted is really difficult and now we’ll have to wait for another three weeks again.
The doctor has sent a new test kit in the mail and Kevin has a blood work appointment for Tuesday, March the 16th. We are tracking the package as it comes and it is supposed to come Tuesday morning, so we are praying for a miracle that it will come on time.
A friend of mine sent me a message when I asked for examples of Bible characters that suffered disappointment, and she said “many of the ‘disappointed’ people were not given their wishes. But the ‘dreams’ they had to give up to remain faithful were ‘fulfilled’ in amazing ways for other people, later generations, and as ‘faith builders’ for us who read about them”. This was a big encouragement to me.
We are in a season of disappointment. But if for any reason, what we are going through is meant for the greater good and to help someone else in their journey, it will all be worth it. We both know that we are only a very small piece in this massive puzzle of the world. Yes, it is disappointing but disappointment is a little easier to bare when you know that it is just a small piece in a very large picture.
